Rumah kongsi ‘panas’ diserbu

Konsert Gegar RTM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- The "Gegar Generasiku" Carnival, organised by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), will be held once every two months in selected locations nationwide.

RTM director-general Datuk Ibrahim Yahya said it was to realise the aspiration of Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim who wanted the programme to be organised and instilled with elements of 1Malaysia.

"It will be an effort to bring us closer to the people, especially youngsters who are involved in immoral activities.

"We are not only giving them entertainment, in fact, disseminate information through exhibitions which will be held during the carnival, " he told reporters after visiting the carnival site in conjunction with the "Gegar Generasiku" Concert at Angkasapuri here on Sunday.

Ibrahim said the proposed location for the next carnival would be Kuala Terengganu, Pagoh, Pekan, Port Dickson, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

Undergrad’s beach date ends in rape

KUALA TERENGGANU: An undergraduate who was “caught” for close proximity on Wednesday night has claimed rape after she was induced into having sex with one of the “religious enforcement officers” to escape prosecution.

The 20-year-old university student had gone for a rendezvous with her boyfriend at the Teluk Ketapang beachfront at about 10pm on Wednesday when they were approached by the three men who claimed to be officers from the state religious department.

State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Fauzi Abduri said the couple were sitting in their car when the three men ordered them to get out of their vehicle.

One of the men then told them they could be fined RM6,000 for committing khalwat but they were willing to waive legal action if the woman had sex with him.

In her report, the woman claimed she was raped at a secluded spot in Tok Jembal, about 4km from Teluk Ketapang.

She later realised that the men were imposters and lodged a police report the next day.

ACP Mohd Fauzi said based on the woman’s report, police arrested a man to help in their investigations. The suspect, who is a salesman, lives near the beach.

Police were looking for two of his accomplices, he said.

Divorce-hit Terengganu wants to spice up sex life of newly-weds

KUALA TERENGGANU: Body odour, humdrum sex and boring pyjamas have been blamed for the high divorce rate in Terengganu and the state government is coming up with innovative ways to improve sexual relations, especially among newly-weds.

Top on its list is to invite cosmetic firms to introduce exotic and sensuous fragrances that can arouse sexual desire.

And husbands and wives are being encouraged to bathe together.

State Religious and Information Committee deputy chairman Muhammad Ramli Nuh believes that these moves can curb the divorce rates among young couples.

He told The Star yesterday that at least three in every 10 marriages in the state end in divorce, adding that separation was now the prevalent trend among couples aged between 25 and 30 years.

Muhammad Ramli said couples who had been married for less than five years and were on the verge of separation had told counsellors that routine sex and body odour were the main reasons for them to want to break up.

He said he was bewildered that some of these couples said their spouses’ old-fashioned pyjamas – sarong and t-shirt – and bad smell during intimate moments made their sex life monotonous or turned them off completely.

“I know of one case where a separation was triggered just because the spouse smelled of fish crackers,” he said.

As such, he said the state government – through state Family Development Board – was asking cosmetic firms to introduce special perfumes for the couples so they could “sustain their relationships, hopefully for eternity.”

Muhammad Ramli said married couples should bathe together to make their relationship more exciting.

“I met this elderly couple in Kelantan, they bathe together although they are grandparents; they enjoy a blissful marriage, this is when I mooted the idea where this method could be introduced as part of the pre-marital courses conducted in the state,” he said.

Muhammad Ramli said the state government was also sourcing for consultants to provide grooming workshops.

“This workshop is not only meant for the wives but also to provide men with tips on how to be attractive to their spouse at all times,” he said.

He said these consultants could also suggest the right lingerie to be worn.

Muhammad Ramli added that the state government had engaged marriage consultants to mediate between feuding couples.

Training local maids

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu is hoping to train about 1,600 single mothers as local maids in a 15-day intensive training plan.

State Education, Higher Learning, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the training would be based on methods used at a maid-training centre in Bandung, Indonesia.

“Officers of the State Family Development Foundation will obtain the training modules to help us train our domestic helpers,” he said.

The Indonesian modules covered household duties and each complete session would last two weeks, he said when met here recently.

Ahmad Razif said the foundation’s officers were expected to leave for Bandung after the Hari Raya holidays.

According to the Terengganu Women and Family Department database, there were more than 16,000 single mothers in the state, some as young as 21 years.

Many of them depended on state handouts and the state anticipated that 10% of them would be interested in the training.

The first batch was expected to be equipped for employment by year end.

Ahmad Razif said the single mothers would be given a monthly salary of RM450 to RM550.

The proposed working hours were from 9am to 5pm daily and Friday would be a day off, he said.

“They don’t have to stay in with their employers as they are not from another country. This would minimise homesickness,” he said.

He said the plan was mooted by the state to address the shortage of maids and minimise the entry of foreign domestic helpers.

He said the locals had the advantage of understanding Terengganu dialects and the culture of their employers.

The centre, he said, would be monitored by state-owned training provider Tesdec to prevent complaints of poorly-trained maids from employers.

The maids would be given uniforms and the centre would recruit nurses, former maids, chefs and psychologists as facilitators, he added.

The Bandung modules, he noted, covered all fields including caring for the elderly.

The centre would issue a certificate of competency to the participants once they complete the training, he added.

Ahmad Razif said that details like agreements between maids and employers would be outlined later.
