Constant crime puts flat dwellers in a quandary
KUALA TERENGGANU: Fed-up with constant break-ins, flat dwellers at Gelong Bilal in Pasing Panjang here have appealed to the police to intensify patrols in the area.
These flats house over 100 families and at least two thefts are reported weekly, placing the dwellers in a quandary.
A spokesman for the residents, Awang Mansur Daud, 63, said: “We are tired of putting up with the criminal cases. We want the authorities to provide security and bring an end to the problem,” he said during an interview.
Awang Mansur said the dwellers were mostly low- and middle-income earners who could not afford the losses due to the crime in the area.
He said they were unable to sleep in peace with constant break-ins.
Last week, thieves broke into a computer technician’s unit and stole a laptop, a mobile phone and RM3,000 in cash, he added.
When informed of the problem, Kuala Terengganu deputy OCPD, Asst Comm Zamri Shamsuddin assured the dwellers that the police would take measures to reduce the crime.
