Stoned motorist rams into cop

KUALA TERENGGANU: A police constable suffered a fractured right leg when he was rammed by a car driven by a man high on psychotropic pills.

Kons Mohd Nor Farizan, 24, who is with the communications unit of the state police contingent, had stopped to rest on a road shoulder on the Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Permaisuri in Setiu, some 70km from here, when a car coming from the same direction hit him at 11am Sunday.

State acting traffic and public order chief Deputy Supt Nor Azmi Isa said the car was driven by a 24-year-old man with his girlfriend in the front passenger seat.

He said witnesses saw the car zig-zagging and veering to the side of the road before ramming into the policeman.

Supt Nor Azmi said the driver was detained and tested positive for drugs.

Kons Mohd Nor is being treated at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here.
