62 snatch thefts in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: Sixty-two snatch-theft cases were reported in the state for the first four months of this year.

State deputy police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner II Hamzah Mohd Jamil said investigations on 37 cases led to the arrests of 18 people.

Hamzah said Kuala Terengganu had the most cases reported at 26, followed by Kemaman (11), Besut (10), Marang (9) and Dungun (6).

He said of 62 snatch-theft victims, 40 were identified as motorcyclists or pillion riders and the rest were pedestrians.

Among the hotspots for snatch thefts were main roads, housing areas, near traffic lights, and bus terminals.
On Mat Rempit, Hamzah said since April 16, police had carried out 281 operations resulting in 3,395 summonses.

He said 28 people, mostly aged between 14 and 25, were arrested while 1,037 motorcycles were seized.
