Student: Teacher slapped me unconscious

KUALA TERENGGANU: A Form Five student has accused a teacher of slapping her until she passed out for not paying attention during history class.

The Terengganu Education Depart-ment has set up a panel comprising senior officers to probe the complaint made by Nur Shakira Ruslan Affendi, 17, of SMK Chendering.

“We will be fair in our investigations,” said department director Ariffin Embong.

He said the teacher would face the disciplinary board if he was found to have committed the offence.

“However, if the student is at fault, then she would have to face the consequences for making a false report,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Nur Shakira claimed that she was hit hard on the head by the teacher, causing her to black out on the classroom floor on Thursday.

She said the male teacher was furious at her for not paying attention during his class.

“Yes, I admit that my mind was wandering during the lesson but the teacher shouldn’t have hit me using such force,” she said when met at home on Friday.

Nur Shakira lodged a report at the Chendering police station on the day of the alleged incident.

Two other students, Noorsyafina Sulong and Zurnia Anissa Setapa, from the same class are also accusing the teacher of hitting them that day.

However, the teacher, who identified himself only as Yusuf, has denied hitting the student with such an impact.

State Deputy CID chief Supt K. Manoharan said police had initiated a separate probe of their own.
