KUALA TERENGGANU: A scrap metal dealer made a shocking discovery when he stumbled on the body of a day-old baby girl at a dumpsite here yesterday.

He was sifting through the rubbish and searching for scrap metal at the site in Km27 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru near Kampung Sungai Ikan in Tepoh when he saw a baby's body with her umbilical cord still attached.

She was bundled in a sarong among a heap of rubbish.

The scrap metal dealer rushed to inform a Kuala Terengganu City Council personnel, Asali Ibrahim.

Asali, who confirmed the find, lodged a report at the Batu Rakit police station.
State CID chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fauzi Abduri said the body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for post-mortem.
